Hidden among a cluster of pines and oaks, the settlement of Mashobra was the first choice of British officials and their families who wanted proximity to, as well as privacy from Shimla. A right turn from the Mashobra bazaar takes you to this gorgeous property, the property of writer Khushwant Singh’s brother Gurbax Singh, where the Merchant – Ivory film The Jewel in the Crown was shot.
Attached to an old colonial home dated back to 1879, this is a beautiful homestay surrounded by apple and cherry orchards. With a backdrop of the Deodar forest, the cottages are equipped with a kitchen, hot and cold running water, and all the luxuries of a homestay. Overlooking the Shimla hills, with an uninterrupted view of the setting sun, is the perfect homestay in Mashobra.
